History

Villa Montefiano is located on a hill in a wonderfully panoramic position dominating Fiesole, Florence and the Tuscan countryside whose soft lines were immortalised by the greatest Florentine painters.

The gardens and terraces are surrounded by a cypress, pine and oak wood, dominating the magnificent panorama that stretches from Chianti to the Apuanian Alps.

The 16th century castle was built incorporating a tower from the 13th century, whose outer walls are still visible, along with a few windows and barrel vault ceilings. During the recent renovation, the tower built into the outer walls of the villa could be identified. The courtyard is attributed to Buontalenti because of the elegance of the loggia and for the telescope effect of the doors that open onto a nymph in the background.

Villa Montefiano was the primary home of the noble Mancini family, whose coat of arms is still on the first floor chimney.  It was also the Florentine residence of the famous American banker Morgan as well as the summer home of the Florentine St Mark's monks.

During the 19th century, it was used as a farm, undergoing several changes owing to the needs of the times.

The original beauty was restored by careful renovation that eliminated the 19th century changes, conserving at the same time the ceilings, pavements and original windows and doors.

Today Villa Montefiano has been completely furnished with period pieces and maintains the warmth and intimacy of a lived-in home.
